The project brings together a number of datasets covering different periods and geographic extents, linked by a focus on the development of concerts based on their ephemera (programmes, announcements, etc.). These datasets are also at different stages of curation, from scanned source to authoritative database; that is, we are looking at all stages of the ‘pipeline’ from documentary source to richly interlinked, verified information, but spread across different datasets at different stages.
This broad spread of datasets is ideal to act as:
- an exemplar of the potential of semantic data linkage
- an example from which to derive broader understanding of the development of digital archives in historical musicology
